This is a very strange issue indeed. There are two things that I can think of that might cause this. One could be a firmware bug that is causing a kernel panic and reboot when the device in question goes into power saving mode. The other would be a PSU fault that is causing it to drop power when the load drops too low (as would be caused by the system going idle and putting some devices into power saving mode). To test the second possibility add a dummy load to the PSU such as an old HDD that sucks power and see if the problem stops. Not entirely sure how to test for the first possibility, perhaps others will give some suggestions. |

After I posted this as a potential issue I kept trying to reconfigure the system to work around the problem. Then the problem kept getting worse to the point where it would only stay up for about 30 seconds from power on. It is a power problem and the system has been sent back for repair. Sorry I didn't update the ticket before now. |
