To give a quick update, apparently this is caused by a missing patch in kernel versions starting with 4.18.0-466.el8. The very competent folks at XCP-ng figured this out: https://xcp-ng.org/forum/topic/7420/live-migrate-of-rocky-linux-8-8-vm-crashes-reboots-vm/12. |

I can confirm that we also face this issue at my institution, using XCP-ng as the hypervisor. Is there any prospect on when the patch will be ported into Rocky? As the above link shows, the necessary patch is in 4.18.0-488 |

The bugzilla that notes this fix for -488 (in stream) as noted in the changelog is here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2187810 - However it is set to private, so it is unclear when it will make it downstream to us. We do not generally make own backports to these. We will need to wait this week or next for the patch to become available from Red Hat. |

4.18.0-477.15.1.el8_8 is not the latest kernel. Please update to 4.18.0-477.21.1.el8_8. |

Installed the latest updates, latest kernel Linux srv-mon-060 4.18.0-477.21.1.el8_8.x86_64 #1 SMP Tue Aug 8 21:30:09 UTC 2023 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux but after migration still a probable problem (no reboot) -> see attached screenshot image.png (10,243 bytes) |

Assuming the fix will be in el8.9, a temporary solution may be to use elrepo's kernel-lt (or kernel-ml) as the submitter indicated. dnf install https://www.elrepo.org/elrepo-release-8.el8.elrepo.noarch.rpm dnf --enablerepo=elrepo-kernel install kernel-lt |
